Bike-A-Thon Update
The Bike-A-Thon was great! The rain held off for the event and Daniel did 15 laps!
I’ll post some more later and send out the individual emails to all his sponsors, but we’re getting ready to head out to an afternoon movie.

This is an onion I sliced last Saturday for some burgers.
First of all, thank you all so much for all the calls and emails about Daniel! He’s doing great and looking forward to going back to preschool tomorrow!
Secondly, thank you to everyone who is sponsoring Daniel tomorrow in the Bike-A-Thon! It is supposed to rain tomorrow, so I’m not sure if they will move the event to they gym or postpone it until next week, but I will update here as soon as I know something.
And last, but not least…Good Luck to Yia-Yia, who is walking in the March of Dimes Walk America tomorrow!!
Or even a couple of hours.
Yesterday started out like every other day. Daniel was feeling fine. By lunchtime, Daniel didn’t want to eat and said his tummy hurt. By 3:00, he was laying down (on his own, without suggestion) and had a little fever.
By 5:00 we were on our way to the doctor. Daniel was burning up and quite pitiful. After a somewhat quick attempt to get blood from his finger (I’m sure it felt like forever to Daniel), the nurse decided just to take it from his arm.
Wow. We have been very lucky so far concerning Daniel’s health and the last time a needle came anywhere near him was his last immunization, which I doubt he remembers. It’s a lot different from when he was a baby and he screamed when he got stuck. Sure, that broke my heart then, but now…Now he talks and says/sobs things like "Make it stop Mommy!!" and "Mommy can we please just go home now?"
After waiting a little bit to get results, the doctor came in a suggested that we go to the ER immediately to rule out appendicitis. We went to one of the ER’s on our insurance plan and they told us that they couldn’t do anything and we needed to go to Vanderbilt Children’s ER.
So we were transferred, in an ambulance.
Daniel thought that was pretty cool and we waved at Daddy who was following behind us in our car.
We got to Vandy and saw many doctors and nurses. Daniel was also happy to find that there was a DVD player and a DVD library to borrow from. Then he had to get stuck again to get an IV and take a ride down the hall to get a CT scan of his tummy. He did so well. Luckily they let me go in the room with him while they were doing the scans so we could help each other be brave.
After waiting a little while longer, Daniel was feeling a little better and his fever had gone away on it’s own and the nurses were letting him have gatorade and popsicles. The doctors came in and told us that the scan was clear and they could pretty much rule out appendicitis! It was probably just a bad stomach virus and we could go home and follow up with Daniel’s peditrician in the morning. So, a little after midnight we headed home for some rest.
This morning we got up and went to Daniel’s doctor who checked him out again and told us that it was probably just gastroenteritis and that he could be fine as soon as tomorrow and he could eat now if he felt like it.
Daniel is doing great now, no fever or pain and he’s playing and eating like normal! We hope it stays that way!
Here’s a couple of pictures of our adventure that I snapped with my phone last night.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I wanted to keep up Daniel’s pledge request as long as possible.
(Which by the way, he has reached his goal on his pledges! Thanks to everyone who has helped! He will be riding this Friday at school. I will post an update when we get home in the afternoon and send out emails to his sponsors, letting them know their totals.)
Things are going well. Saturday afternoon Daniel presented his BIG Music Show in our sunroom. I’ll post pictures soon.
David and I are getting closer to finishing up the movie room, expect David to post pictures soon.
Today Daniel was watching a show on TV and they were talking about being happy. Daniel said "Do you know what makes me happy?", I asked him what and he said, "Your hair makes me happy!"
I guess I can’t go get it cut off for the summer now.
Daniel will be participating in a Trike-A-Thon at his school later this month. This event helps raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Daniel will be taking his very cool bike to school on April 29. During a thirty minute activity period, he will be doing laps on his bike in the gym (most children average 25 laps in a 30 minute period). Daniel will raise money by having people sponsor him by pledging to give so much money per lap or by giving a flat donation amount. Any sponsors and donations will be greatly appreciated and rewarded with a piece of Daniel Sidlinger original artwork. Daniel’s goal is to reach $200. It is a high goal, but we feel that it is a good opportunity to teach Daniel to help when he can and also give to a very worthy cause.
Exactly one year from today I will be registering Daniel for kindergarten.
Sorry for not posting lately, I’ve managed to get tendonitis in my shoulder and have been medicated the last couple of days.
Despite my shoulder, we had a great (busy) weekend. Saturday we had soccer in the early afternoon, then that evening we went to a Sounds game. It was perfect weather and a great game (even though the Sounds lost by 1). Daniel got to meet Titan Erron Kinney and get his autograph. He also got to say hi to the Sounds’ mascot Ozzie. After the game there was a really good fireworks show and after that they let kids come down on the field and run the bases (great idea…Daniel was hopped up on cotton candy and needed to burn off some energy).
Sunday was a bit more laid back, but we did make trips to both Lowe’s and Home Depot and I now have a nice little herb garden and our backyard has been both weeded and fed.
I’m going to be putting pictures from both the soccer game and the baseball game in an album today, so check back later!
